The 200+ species of Castilleja -- AKA Indian Paintbrush or Prairie Fire -- come in a variety of colors. Here are some of my favorite images from my Colorado and New Mexico photo archives.

 

I came across this paintbrush near a trailhead for the lava flows in El Malpais National Monument, New Mexico

 

These pinkish-paintbrush were growing at a lower elevation of Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado.

 

High up in the Fall River drainage, not far below timberline in Rocky Mountain National Park, I found these deep red paintbrush growing with bistort and some sedges.

A Higher Calling: tundra flowers

It's a gray day in the holler...flowers are gone and leaves (most of them) have dropped. What better day, I thought, to post a few of my favorite flower photos from places beyond the holler?
